    interesting and thought provoking however you failed to mention that we are still only talking about 5 – 8% of the total aged population accessing this level of care. The majority of this population remain in ‘their own environment’ largely dictating their quality of life. Agist attitudes or paternalistic power?

    I think it’s the shape of the built environment that’s the problem: the actual physical layout of buildings and streets, that causes so many of the ills of our society. Not just the inability to look after the aged, but everything else, from having to put kids into child-care, to not being able to live without a motor car – all these are band-aid measures to try to deal with faulty urban planning.
